What South Africa is known for

South Africa’s Zulu Bible story runs from American missionaries in Natal to a translation still in use today.

A New Testament, 1865

The Zulu New Testament was translated by several missionaries of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions and published in 1865.

The first complete Zulu Bible, 1883

The American Bible Society published the first complete Bible in isiZulu in 1883, translated by the American Board, corrected by Andrew Abraham and finally edited by S. C. Pixley.

The 1959 Bible

The Zulu translation mainly in use today was first published by the Bible Society of South Africa in 1959; a dynamic translation of the New Testament and Psalms followed in 1986.

The largest home language

isiZulu is spoken most often at home by 24.4% of South Africans (Census 2022), and by 80.0% of people in KwaZulu-Natal.

A Christian majority

85.3% of South Africans reported Christianity in Census 2022; KwaZulu-Natal, at 74.9%, was the lowest province, with 13.6% reporting Traditional African religion.

Mountains and coast

From the Drakensberg escarpment in KwaZulu-Natal to the Cape, South Africa’s landscape is among the most varied on the continent.

Faith and the Bible in South Africa

Statistics South Africa counted 62,027,503 people in Census 2022. 85.3% reported Christianity as their religious affiliation or belief, 7.8% Traditional African religion, 1.6% Islam, 1.1% Hinduism and 2.9% no religious affiliation. In KwaZulu-Natal, where 80.0% speak isiZulu at home, 74.9% reported Christianity and 13.6% Traditional African religion.

The Zulu Bible is old here. American missionaries published a New Testament in 1865 and the first complete Bible in 1883; the Bible Society of South Africa’s 1959 translation is the one mainly in use today.

The invitation of Father’s Heart Bible™ is a personal one: read the same Word in clear Zulu, and meet in it a Father.

What pains South Africa

Behind South Africa’s beauty and faith, the official figures show wounds that families carry — and the Father’s heart speaks into them.

33.6%
official unemployment rate, second quarter of 2026 (Stats SA Quarterly Labour Force Survey)
47.4%
unemployment rate among young people aged 15–34, second quarter of 2026
5.0 million
unemployed young people (15–34) in the second quarter of 2026
families apart
households stretched by distance and the search for work
a younger generation
asking whether faith is more than tradition
a searching heart
longing to know our Father personally

When nearly half of South Africa’s young people are looking for work, the weight falls on families and on the hopes of a whole generation.

The Father’s answer is not a program. It is a Word to be read, free, in Zulu or English, in Father’s Heart Bible™ — for the believer, the doubter, and the one who simply wants to hear it clearly.

What “our Father” offers South Africa

Father’s Heart Bible™ does not ask South Africa to leave the Scriptures it treasures. It lets a faithful people hear, in clear Zulu, the Father whom its own Bible reveals.

For the one who prays

South Africans pray “Our Father in heaven” from childhood — and can read it again, as the words of One who knows them by name.

For the one left behind

To those who feel overlooked, Scripture promises “a father to the fatherless” — a Father who stays.

For the child of our Father

“…received the Spirit of sonship, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’” — not a slave’s fear, but a child’s trust.

For Zulu families abroad

For Zulu-speaking families living in other countries, the whole Bible is free on any phone, in Zulu and in English.

His Word will not return void

When our Father said, “Let there be light,” there was light. His Word accomplishes what He sends it to do. In a land that has had it in Zulu since 1883, it will not return empty.

“…so will my word be that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” — Isaiah 55:11
