Key takeawayBrazil has more Bibles than almost anywhere — but Father's Heart Bible™ (FHB) invites you to finally meet the Father inside the book you already know.

Brazil at a glance

Brazil is a continent of a country — the largest in Latin America, the most populous Catholic nation on earth, and home to a vast and fast-growing evangelical church. It is a land of staggering natural beauty and equally staggering contrasts.

What Brazil is known for

Few nations are loved by the world the way Brazil is — for its warmth, its rhythm, and its sheer natural abundance.

Christ over the city

The Christ the Redeemer statue above Rio is one of the New Seven Wonders of the World — arms open over a nation.

The lungs of the planet

The Amazon, the world’s largest rainforest, holds about 10% of all known species on earth.

The beautiful game

Brazil has won the FIFA World Cup a record five times — football here is less a sport than a national language.

Iguazu and wild wonders

From the thundering Iguazu Falls to the Pantanal wetlands, Brazil holds some of the planet’s greatest natural spectacles.

A culture of music and joy

Samba, bossa nova, and Carnival gave the world a vocabulary for celebration.

A Bible-loving nation

Brazil is among the world’s largest Bible markets — Scripture is woven into daily life.

Faith and the Bible in Brazil

Brazil is among the world’s great Bible-reading nations. It is the most populous Catholic country on earth — about 100 million Catholics — and home to the second-largest Protestant population in the Western world, with 47 million evangelicals and growing fast. All told, roughly 84% of Brazilians are Christian.

Brazil is also among the world’s largest Bible markets — Bibles are printed, sold, and distributed here in vast numbers. Scripture saturates the culture, from favela storefront churches to vast stadium services. The beloved Almeida translation (in its ARA, ARC, and ACF editions), alongside the newer NVI and NTLH, has carried the Portuguese Bible for generations — its New Testament was first printed in Amsterdam in 1681 and the first complete Almeida Bible followed in 1753. IBGE’s 2022 census counted 100.2 million Catholics (56.7%) and 47.4 million evangelicals (26.9%) among people aged 10 and over.

And yet, for all that abundance, many Brazilians carry a quiet ache: God is known about — as a rule-giver, a tradition, or a means to prosperity — more than He is known as Father. The need in Brazil is not a first Bible. It is to meet, inside the book they already revere, the Father who has loved them all along.

What pains Brazil

Behind the beaches and the joy, Brazilian families carry heavy and unequal burdens — and it is into these exact wounds that the Father’s heart speaks.

44,127
lives lost to intentional violence in 2024 (40,775 in 2025, the lowest since 2012) — still among the highest totals on earth
0.504
Gini index — one of the most unequal societies in the world
80%+
of families carry debt — a record high (81.6% in May 2026)
71%
of those in poverty are Black or mixed-race, though they are 57% of the population
7.4 million
people still live in extreme poverty
thousands
of children in residential or foster care — most removed from homes of violence, abuse, or neglect

The violence falls hardest on the young, the poor, and the Black — a generation of sons and daughters lost in the favelas and the urban margins. Inequality runs so deep that two Brazils live side by side, and household debt has reached record levels. Many homes are marked by absent fathers, and the wound of fatherlessness runs through it all.

These are not statistics to a Father. They are children He longs to gather. Brazil does not need more religion — it needs to know it is loved by a Father who runs to meet His children.

What “our Father” offers Brazil

Brazil already believes. Father’s Heart Bible™ does not bring a new religion — it answers the longing underneath the religion Brazil already has: to be a beloved child, not a distant subject. In this translation, Scripture reveals God not as a force to appease, but as a Father who runs to meet His children.

For the one who has a Bible but not a Father

You have heard of God your whole life. Father’s Heart Bible™ lets you finally meet Him — the Father who runs to the returning child, not a rule-keeper to satisfy.

For the fatherless

Fatherlessness runs deep in Brazil — absent fathers, tens of thousands of children in care, and homes longing for a dad. To them Scripture promises “a father to the fatherless” and offers the Spirit of sonship — a Father who calls you His own, forever.

For the one crushed by inequality

Across the divide between the two Brazils, the Father calls every person — favela or penthouse — equally beloved. Belonging here is not bought; it is given.

For the one tired of earning God’s favor

To everyone worn out by religion that demands and prosperity gospels that disappoint, the Father offers a love that comes first and keeps no ledger of wrongs.

Why Father's Heart Bible for Brazil

God revealed as Father, not religion

In one of the world’s most Bible-loving nations, Father’s Heart Bible™ offers what familiarity can dull: God revealed as Father wherever Scripture reveals Him that way — from Genesis 1:1 onward.

Genesis 1 · Gênesis 1 31 verses

1 In the beginning, our Heavenly Father created the heavens and the earth.

1 No princípio, nosso Pai celestial criou os céus e a terra.

2 The earth was formless and empty; darkness lay over the deep's surface, and the Spirit of our Father was hovering over the waters' surface.

3 Then our Father said, "Let there be light," and there was light.

3 Então nosso Pai disse: "Haja luz", e houve luz.

4 He saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.

5 He called the light "day" and called the darkness "night." There was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

E houve tarde, e houve manhã—o primeiro dia.

6 And our Father said, "Let there be an expanse between the waters to separate water from water."

7 He made the expanse and separated the water under it from the water above it. And it was so.

8 He called the expanse "sky." So there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.

8 Ele chamou o firmamento de "céu". Assim houve tarde, e houve manhã—o segundo dia.

9 Then our Father said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear." And it was so.

10 He named the dry ground "land," the gathered waters "seas." And he saw it was good.

11 Then he said, "Let the land grow vegetation: seed-bearing plants, fruit trees bearing fruit with seed in it, after its kind." And it was so.

12 The land produced vegetation—seed-bearing plants by kind, and trees bearing seed-bearing fruit by kind—and our Father saw that it was good.

13 And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.

13 E houve tarde, e houve manhã—o terceiro dia.

14 And our Father said, "Let there be lights in the sky's expanse to separate day from night, and serve as signs to mark seasons, days, and years,

15 and let them be lights in the sky's expanse, to give light on the earth." And it was so.

15 "e sejam luminares no firmamento do céu para iluminar a terra." E assim foi.

16 Our Father made two great lights—the greater light to rule the day, the lesser light to rule the night. He also made the stars.

17 He set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth,

18 to rule the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. He saw it was good.

19 So there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.

19 Assim houve tarde, e houve manhã—o quarto dia.

20 Then our Father said, "Let the water swarm with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth, across the sky's expanse."

21 So he created the great sea creatures, every living creature that moves and swarms in the water by its kind, and every winged bird by its kind. And he saw it was good.

22 Our Father blessed them and said, "Be fruitful, multiply, fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on earth."

22 Nosso Pai os abençoou, dizendo: "Sejam férteis e multipliquem-se e encham as águas dos mares, e multipliquem-se as aves na terra."

23 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.

23 E houve tarde, e houve manhã—o quinto dia.

24 And our Father said, "Let the land produce living creatures by kind: livestock, crawling creatures, and wild animals, each by kind." And it was so.

25 He made wild animals by their kind, livestock by their kind, and every creature crawling the ground by its kind. And he saw that it was good.

26 Then our Father said, "Let us make humanity in our image, in our likeness, to rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, all the earth, and every creature crawling on the ground."

27 So our Father created humanity in his own image; in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

28 Our Father blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth and subdue it. Rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, and every living creature that moves on the earth."

29 Then he said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant across the whole earth, and every tree with seed-bearing fruit—they will be your food.

30 To every animal of the earth, every bird of the sky, everything crawling on the ground with breath of life, I give every green plant for food." And so it happened.

31 Our Father saw all he had made, and it was very good. So there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

Assim houve tarde, e houve manhã—o sexto dia.

John 3 · João 3 36 verses

1 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.

2 This man came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from our Father, for no one can do these signs you do unless our Father is with him."

3 Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I tell you: unless someone is born from above, he can't see the kingdom of our Father."

4 Nicodemus asked, "How can a man be born when he's old? Can he enter his mother's womb again and be born?"

5 Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I tell you, unless one is born of water and the Holy Spirit, he can't enter our Father's kingdom.

6 Born of the flesh is flesh, and born of the Holy Spirit is spirit.

7 Don't be amazed that I said to you, 'You must be born from above.'

8 Wind blows where it wants; you hear its sound but don't know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

9 Nicodemus said to him, "How can these things be?"

9 Nicodemos lhe disse: "Como pode ser isso?"

10 Jesus answered him, "Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things?

11 Truly, truly, I tell you: we speak what we know, we testify to what we've seen, yet you don't accept our testimony.

12 If I told you earthly things and you don't believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?

13 No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man.

14 As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,

15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.

16 For our Father so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

17 For our Father did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but so the world could be saved through him.

18 Whoever believes in him isn't condemned; whoever doesn't believe is condemned already, for not believing in the name of the one and only Son of our Father.

19 This is the judgment: light has entered the world, and people loved darkness more than light because their deeds were evil.

20 Everyone who does evil hates the light and won't come to the light, so that his deeds aren't exposed.

21 But whoever does the truth comes to the light, so it may be revealed that his works have been done in our Father."

22 After this, Jesus and his disciples went into the Judean countryside, where he stayed with them, baptizing.

23 John also baptized at Aenon near Salim, since water was plentiful there, and people came and were baptized,

24 for John had not yet been put in prison.

25 Now a discussion arose between some of John's disciples and a Jew over purification.

26 They came to John and said, "Rabbi, the man with you beyond the Jordan, the one you testified about—he's baptizing, and everyone goes to him."

27 John replied, "A person cannot receive even one thing unless it is given him from heaven.

28 You yourselves can testify: I said 'I'm not the Christ, but sent ahead of him.'

29 The one with the bride is the bridegroom—Jesus. The bridegroom's friend, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom's voice. So my joy is now complete.

30 He must increase, but I must decrease."

30 É necessário que ele cresça e que eu diminua.

31 The one who comes from above is above all. The one from earth belongs to earth and speaks in an earthly way. The one who comes from heaven is above all.

32 He bears witness to what he has seen and heard, yet no one receives his testimony.

33 Whoever receives his testimony confirms that our Father is true.

34 The one our Father sent speaks our Father's words, for he gives the Holy Spirit without measure.

35 Our Father loves the Son and has given all things into his hand.

36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever disobeys the Son won't see life—our Father's wrath remains on him.

Brazil and the world

Brazil will not only receive the Bible — it will help carry it. As one of the great missionary-sending and Portuguese-speaking nations on earth, a Brazil that receives Father’s Heart Bible™ becomes a launching point to the world.

A missionary superpower

Brazil sends roughly 38,000 missionaries around the world each year — second only to the United States — and Brazilian believers are uniquely embraced across cultures. As Brazil receives Father’s Heart Bible™, it is positioned to carry it to the nations.

The Portuguese-speaking world

The Portuguese edition reaches far beyond Brazil: about 60 million Portuguese speakers in Africa — Angola, Mozambique, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé, Equatorial Guinea — plus Portugal. One translation, roughly 269 million people.

The Brazilian diaspora

Nearly five million Brazilians live abroad — over two million in the United States alone — carrying their warmth and faith through everyday work, friendship, and church.

A bridge between continents

Brazil’s cultural reach naturally bridges Latin America and Lusophone Africa, making it a strategic launching point for the Father’s heart to two continents at once.

His Word will not return void

When our Father said, “Let there be light,” there was light. His Word accomplishes what He sends it to do. Across a nation already full of Bibles, His Word will not return empty — it will find the fatherless, the grieving, and the searching, and it will not fail.

“…so will my word be that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” — Isaiah 55:11

Frequently asked questions

How many Christians are there in Brazil?

About 84% of Brazilians are Christian — roughly 150 million people, the largest Christian population in Latin America. Brazil is the most populous Catholic nation on earth (about 100 million Catholics) and home to some 47 million and rapidly growing evangelicals. You can read and hear the Scriptures they treasure free in Father's Heart Bible™ at fathersheartbible.com/read.

What do the 2022 census figures say about religion in Brazil?

IBGE's 2022 census counted, among people aged 10 and over, 100.2 million Catholics (56.7%), 47.4 million evangelicals (26.9%) and 16.4 million with no religion (9.3%) out of 176.6 million. Together Catholics and evangelicals are about 84%.

Who made the classic Portuguese Bible translation?

João Ferreira de Almeida finished his New Testament in 1676 and it was first printed in Amsterdam in 1681. He died in 1691 having reached Ezekiel 48:21 in the Old Testament; the Dutch pastor Jacobus op den Akker completed it, and the first complete Bible of this version was published in 1753. The Sociedade Bíblica do Brasil has issued revised Almeida editions in 1917, 1956, 1969, 1993, 1995 and 2009.

Is Christianity growing in Brazil?

Yes — while the Catholic share has slowly declined, the evangelical and Protestant church is growing fast, now roughly a third of the country, and Brazil remains one of the world’s largest Bible markets. The Bible is freely legal to own and read everywhere. Father's Heart Bible™ is free to read online with audio — no account, no app — at fathersheartbible.com/read.

Can I read the Bible online free in Brazil?

Yes. Father's Heart Bible™ is free to read and hear online in Portuguese — all 66 books, with audio on every chapter, no account, no purchase, no app — at fathersheartbible.com/read/pt/, so the whole nation can read it in its own tongue. The English edition is free too.

Is Father's Heart Bible available in Portuguese?

Yes. The complete Portuguese edition — all 66 books, with audio — is free to read at fathersheartbible.com/read/pt/ and published in print (fathersheartbible.com/bibles/portuguese-bible/). Portuguese is spoken by some 269 million people across Brazil and Lusophone Africa, and Brazil is one of the world's largest Bible markets.

I already have a Bible — why another translation?

Brazil is rich in Bibles and churches, yet many people relate to God as a distant authority, an obligation, or a means to prosperity. Father's Heart Bible™ renders God as Father wherever Scripture reveals Him that way — turning a familiar book into a Father's letter to a son or daughter you may never have known you were.

Is there an audio Bible I can listen to?

Yes. Every chapter of Father's Heart Bible™ comes with free audio, in English and Portuguese, so you can listen on any phone. Globally, audio Scripture is surging, with more than 1.3 billion audio-Bible listens recorded in a single year.

What is the most popular Bible translation in Brazil?

The most widely used is the Almeida translation — especially the Revised and Updated (ARA), Revised and Corrected (ARC), and Corrected and Faithful (ACF) editions — the historic Portuguese Bible that shaped Brazilian Christianity. Newer translations like the Nova Versão Internacional (NVI) and the readability-focused Nova Tradução na Linguagem de Hoje (NTLH) are also very popular. Nearly all Bible reading in Brazil is in Portuguese, which is why Father's Heart Bible™ is published in Portuguese.
