My Father, My King
A psalm of praise. Of David.
An alphabetical praise from David that keeps widening: one generation commends his Father's works to the next, every creature is fed as he opens his hand, and everyone falling is held up. His compassion is said to rest over everything he made.
145 1I will exalt you, my Father, my King, and I will bless your name forever and ever.
2Every day I will bless you, and I will praise your name forever and ever. 3Great is our Father, and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom.
4One generation will commend your works to another, and will declare your mighty acts. 5I will meditate on the glorious splendor of your majesty and on your wonderful works. 6They will tell of the power of your awesome deeds, and I will proclaim your greatness. 7They will overflow with the fame of your abundant goodness, and joyfully sing of your righteousness.
8Our Father is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in covenant love. 9Our Father is good to all, and his heart of compassion rests over all that he has made. 10All your works will give you thanks, our Father, and your faithful ones will bless you. 11They will speak of the glory of your kingdom and tell of your power, 12to make known your mighty deeds to the children of mankind, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. 13Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. Our Father is faithful in all his words and gracious in all his works. a a v13 This line is missing from most Hebrew manuscripts but present in the Dead Sea Scrolls and the ancient Greek. The psalm runs through the Hebrew alphabet, and without this line a letter is missing.
14Our Father upholds all who are falling, and raises up all who are bowed down. 15The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in its season. 16You open your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.
17Our Father is righteous in all his ways and faithful in all his works. 18Our Father is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. 19He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them. 20Our Father watches over all who love him, but all the wicked he will destroy.
21My mouth will speak the praise of our Father; let every living thing bless his holy name forever and ever.
