Psalms 123

Book

Eyes Lifted Toward Heaven

A Song of Ascents.

A very short psalm of humiliation. Servants watching a master's hand is the whole picture — eyes fixed on our Father, waiting for one movement. The people say they have had far more than enough contempt from the comfortable and the proud.

Chapter 123.

To you I lift up my eyes, you who are enthroned in the heavens. Look—as the eyes of servants turn to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a servant girl to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes turn to our Father, until he is gracious to us. Be gracious to us, our Father, be gracious to us, for we have had far more than enough of contempt. Our soul has had far more than enough of the mockery of those at ease, of the contempt of the proud.
