2 Timothy 3

3 ¹But understand this: in the last days there will come times of difficulty. ²For people will be self-lovers, money-lovers, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy. ³Heartless, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, hating what is good, ⁴treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of our Father. ⁵They keep the shape of devotion to God but deny its power—turn from them. ⁶For among these are those who slip into homes and trap weak women weighed down with sins, driven by various desires. ⁷Always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. ⁸As Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, these also oppose the truth—minds corrupted, disqualified regarding the faith. ^a a v8 Jannes and Jambres are the traditional Jewish names for the Egyptian magicians who opposed Moses (see Exodus 7–8). ⁹But they won't get far, for their foolishness will be clear to all, as with those two men.

¹⁰You, however, have followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, endurance, ¹¹my persecutions and suffering—at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra, what persecutions I endured! Yet the Lord rescued me from them all. ¹²Indeed, all who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted, ¹³while evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. ¹⁴But you—stay with what you learned and became convinced of, knowing from whom you learned it, ¹⁵and that from infancy you have known the sacred writings, able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. ¹⁶All Scripture is breathed out by our Father—useful for teaching, exposing wrong, correcting, and training in right living, ^b b v16 Scripture is the breath of our Father himself — not a distant deity's decree but the living word of the Father who speaks to his children. ¹⁷so that the person of our Father may be complete, equipped for every good work.
