Moses Speaks to the Leaders
30 1 Moses spoke to the heads of the tribes of the people of Israel: "This is what our Father has commanded.
A Man's Word Before Our Father
2 When a man makes a vow to our Father, or swears an oath to bind himself by a pledge, he must not break his word; he must do everything that comes out of his mouth.
Daughters, Wives, and Widows
3 And if a woman makes a vow to our Father and binds herself by a pledge while she is young and living in her father's house, 4 and her father hears her vow and the pledge by which she has bound herself, and he says nothing to her, then all her vows will stand, and every pledge by which she has bound herself will stand. 5 But if her father forbids her on the day he hears of it, none of her vows or the pledges by which she has bound herself will stand; and our Father will forgive her, because her father forbade her.
6 If she marries while under her vows, or under a rash promise she has made, 7 and her husband hears of it and says nothing to her on the day he hears, then her vows will stand, and the pledges by which she has bound herself will stand. 8 But if on the day her husband hears of it he forbids her, then he nullifies the vow she is under and the rash promise she made; and our Father will forgive her.
9 But the vow of a widow or a divorced woman — everything by which she has bound herself — stands against her.
10 And if she made a vow in her husband's house, or bound herself by a pledge with an oath, 11 and her husband heard it and said nothing to her, and did not forbid her, then all her vows will stand, and every pledge by which she bound herself will stand. 12 But if her husband nullifies them on the day he hears them, then nothing she said — whether her vows or the pledge binding her — will stand: her husband has nullified them, and our Father will forgive her. 13 Any vow and any binding oath to humble herself, her husband may confirm or nullify it. 14 But if her husband says nothing at all to her day after day, then he confirms all her vows or all the pledges she is under; he has confirmed them, because he said nothing to her on the day he heard them. 15 But if he nullifies them after he has heard them, then he will bear her guilt.
16 These are the statutes that our Father commanded Moses, concerning a man and his wife, and concerning a father and his young daughter while she is living in his house.
