Bringing Your Best

Chapter 2.

When anyone brings a grain offering to our Father, their offering must be of fine flour. They must pour oil on it and put frankincense on it,

A Pleasing Aroma to Our Father

and bring it to Aaron's sons the priests. The priest must take from it a handful of the fine flour and oil, with all its frankincense, and burn this as a memorial portion on the altar, a fire offering, a pleasing aroma to our Father. 1 1 v2 The memorial portion was the handful the priest burned on the altar, standing for the whole offering as it rose to our Father. The rest of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons; it is a most holy part of the fire offerings to our Father.

When you bring a grain offering baked in an oven, it must be of fine flour: either loaves without yeast mixed with oil, or wafers without yeast spread with oil. If your offering is a grain offering prepared on a griddle, it must be of fine flour mixed with oil, without yeast. Break it into pieces and pour oil on it; it is a grain offering. If your offering is a grain offering cooked in a pan, it must be made of fine flour with oil. Bring the grain offering made of these things to our Father; present it to the priest, who will take it to the altar. The priest must take from the grain offering its memorial portion and burn it on the altar, a fire offering, a pleasing aroma to our Father. The rest of the grain offering belongs to Aaron and his sons; it is a most holy part of the fire offerings to our Father.

No grain offering that you bring to our Father may be made with yeast, for you must not burn any yeast or honey as a fire offering to our Father. You may bring them to our Father as an offering of firstfruits, but do not offer them on the altar as a pleasing aroma. Season all your grain offerings with salt. Do not leave the salt of your Father's covenant out of your grain offering; add salt to all your offerings. 2 2 v13 Salt preserved food and never spoiled, so a "covenant of salt" pictured a bond with our Father that endures and cannot be broken.

If you bring a grain offering of firstfruits to our Father, offer crushed heads of new grain roasted in the fire as your firstfruits offering. Put oil on it and lay frankincense on it; it is a grain offering. The priest must burn the memorial portion of the crushed grain and the oil, with all its frankincense, as a fire offering to our Father.
