Moses Calls the Assembly

Chapter 35.

Moses assembled all the congregation of the people of Israel and said to them, "These are the things that our Father has commanded you to do."

The Sabbath Rest

You may work for six days, but the seventh day shall be holy to you, a Sabbath of solemn rest to our Father. Whoever does any work on it shall be put to death. You shall not light a fire in any of your homes on the Sabbath day.

A Willing-Heart Offering

Then Moses said to all the congregation of the people of Israel, "This is the thing that our Father has commanded:

Materials for the Dwelling Place

Take from among you a contribution to our Father. Everyone with a willing heart, bring it as our Father's contribution: gold, silver, and bronze, blue, purple, and scarlet yarns, fine linen, goats' hair, tanned rams' skins, fine leather, and acacia wood, oil for the light, spices for the anointing oil and for the fragrant incense, and onyx stones and stones for setting, for the ephod and for the breastpiece.

Every Skilled Hand Invited

"Let every skillful person among you come and make all that our Father has commanded: the tabernacle with its tent and its covering, its clasps and its frames, its bars, its pillars, and its bases; the ark with its poles, the mercy seat, and the veil that screens it; the table with its poles and all its utensils, and the bread of the Presence; the lampstand for the light, with its utensils and its lamps, and the oil for the light; the altar of incense with its poles; the anointing oil and the fragrant incense; and the screen for the doorway at the entrance to the tabernacle; the altar of burnt offering with its bronze grating, its poles, and all its utensils; the basin with its stand; the curtains of the courtyard, its pillars and its bases, and the screen for the gate of the courtyard; the pegs of the tabernacle and the pegs of the courtyard, with their cords; and the finely woven garments for ministering in the Holy Place — the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments for his sons to serve as priests."

The People Respond

Then all the congregation of the people of Israel left Moses. And everyone whose heart stirred him, everyone whose spirit moved him, came and brought our Father's contribution for the work of the tent of meeting, for all its service, and for the holy garments. So they came, both men and women. All who were willing in heart brought brooches and earrings and signet rings and armlets, all kinds of gold objects — everyone presenting a wave offering of gold to our Father. 1 1 v22 A wave offering was a gift formally lifted and presented before God as an act of dedication. And everyone who possessed blue or purple or scarlet yarn, fine linen, goats' hair, tanned rams' skins, or fine leather brought them. Everyone who could present a contribution of silver or bronze brought it as our Father's contribution, and everyone who possessed acacia wood for any part of the work brought it. And every skillful woman spun with her hands and brought what she had spun: the blue, the purple, the scarlet yarn, and the fine linen. All the skilled women whose hearts were stirred spun the goat hair. And the leaders brought the onyx stones and the stones for setting, for the ephod and for the breastpiece, along with the spices and the oil for the light, for the anointing oil, and for the fragrant incense. All the men and women of Israel whose hearts moved them to bring anything for the work our Father had commanded through Moses brought it to our Father as a freewill offering.

Bezalel Called by Name

Then Moses said to the people of Israel, "See, our Father has called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah,

Filled with the Spirit's Skill

and he has filled him with the Spirit of our Father, with skill, with understanding, with knowledge, and with all kinds of craftsmanship, to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, in cutting stones for setting and in carving wood, to work in every kind of skilled craft. And he has put it in his heart to teach, both him and Oholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan. He has filled them with skill to do every kind of work — as engraver, as designer, as embroiderer in blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and as weaver — making them masters of every craft and skilled designers.
