Ten Linen Curtains

Chapter 26.

Make the tabernacle with ten curtains of finely twisted linen, woven with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, with cherubim worked into them by a skilled craftsman.

Dimensions and Joining

Each curtain is to be about forty-two feet long and six feet wide; all the curtains the same size. Five of the curtains are to be joined to one another, and the other five joined to one another. Make loops of blue along the edge of the end curtain of the one set, and do the same along the edge of the end curtain of the other set. Make fifty loops on the one curtain and fifty loops on the end curtain of the other set, the loops opposite one another. Then make fifty gold clasps and use them to join the curtains together, so that the tabernacle becomes a single whole.

The Goat-Hair Covering

Make curtains of goats' hair for a tent over the tabernacle — eleven of them. Each curtain is to be about forty-five feet long and six feet wide; all eleven the same size. Join five of the curtains together by themselves and the other six by themselves, and fold the sixth curtain double at the front of the tent. Make fifty loops along the edge of the end curtain of the one set, and fifty loops along the edge of the end curtain of the other set. Then make fifty bronze clasps and fit them into the loops to join the tent together, so that it becomes one. The extra half-curtain from the tent is to hang down over the back of the tabernacle. The extra eighteen inches on each side of the tent curtains is to hang down over the two sides of the tabernacle, covering both sides. Make for the tent a covering of rams' skins dyed red, and over that a covering of fine leather.

Frames, Bases, and Crossbars

Make upright frames of acacia wood for the tabernacle. Each frame is to be about fifteen feet long and about twenty-seven inches wide. Each frame is to have two pegs set parallel to each other; make all the frames of the tabernacle this way. Make twenty frames for the south side of the tabernacle, and make forty silver bases to go under them — two bases under each frame, one for each of its two pegs. For the second side of the tabernacle, the north side, make twenty frames and forty silver bases, two under each frame. For the rear of the tabernacle, on the west, make six frames, and make two frames for the corners at the rear. At these corners the two frames are to be double from bottom to top, fitted into a single ring; both are to be made this way to form the two corners. So there will be eight frames and their silver bases — sixteen bases, two under each frame.

Make crossbars of acacia wood: five for the frames on one side of the tabernacle, five for the frames on the other side, and five for the frames at the rear, on the west. The center bar is to run through the middle of the frames from end to end. Overlay the frames with gold, make gold rings to hold the bars, and overlay the bars with gold as well. Set up the tabernacle according to the plan you were shown on the mountain.

The Inner Veil

Make a veil of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen, with cherubim worked into it by a skilled craftsman. Hang it on four posts of acacia wood overlaid with gold, with gold hooks, standing on four silver bases. Hang the veil from the clasps and place the ark of the covenant law behind it; the veil will separate the holy place from the most holy place. 1 1 v33 This curtain kept the people apart from the most holy place where our Father's presence rested; its later tearing opened the way home into his presence. Put the mercy seat on the ark of the covenant law in the most holy place. Place the table outside the veil, and set the lampstand across from it on the south side of the tabernacle, with the table on the north side.

Screen for the Entrance

Make a screen for the entrance to the tent of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and finely twisted linen, the work of an embroiderer. For the screen make five posts of acacia wood overlaid with gold, with gold hooks, and cast five bronze bases for them.
