Worshipers Appointed for the Father's Service

Chapter 25.

David and the army commanders set apart some of the sons of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun for service, who prophesied with lyres, harps, and cymbals. Here is the number of those assigned to serve:

Of the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Asharelah, the sons of Asaph, under the direction of Asaph, who prophesied under the direction of the king.

Of Jeduthun, the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah, six, under the direction of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with the lyre in thanksgiving and praise to our Father.

Of Heman, the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, Romamti-ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth. All these were the sons of Heman the king's seer, given by the word of our Father to exalt him. Our Father gave Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

All these were under the direction of their father for the singing in the house of our Father, with cymbals, harps, and lyres for the service of the house of our Father; Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman were under the direction of the king. Their number, together with their relatives who were trained in singing to our Father — all who were skillful — was 288.

And they cast lots for their duties, small and great alike, teacher and pupil alike.

The first lot came out for Asaph, to Joseph; the second to Gedaliah, he and his brothers and his sons, twelve; the third to Zaccur, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the fourth to Izri, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the fifth to Nethaniah, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the sixth to Bukkiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the seventh to Jesarelah, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the eighth to Jeshaiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the ninth to Mattaniah, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the tenth to Shimei, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the eleventh to Azarel, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the twelfth to Hashabiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the thirteenth to Shubael, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the fourteenth to Mattithiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the fifteenth to Jeremoth, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the sixteenth to Hananiah, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the seventeenth to Joshbekashah, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the eighteenth to Hanani, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the nineteenth to Mallothi, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the twentieth to Eliathah, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the twenty-first to Hothir, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the twenty-second to Giddalti, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the twenty-third to Mahazioth, his sons and his brothers, twelve; the twenty-fourth to Romamti-ezer, his sons and his brothers, twelve.
