Safe in the Shadow
Whoever lives close in, under the shelter of the Most High, is promised cover from ambush, disease, night terror and noon plague, with angels assigned to the ordinary business of walking. At the end our Father speaks: because he clings to me, I will answer him.
91 1Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2I will say of my Father, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my Father, in whom I trust."
3Surely he will rescue you from the hunter's trap and from deadly disease. 4He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is your shield and rampart. 5You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6nor the disease that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that ravages at noon. 71,000 may fall at your side, 10,000 at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8You will only look on and see the punishment of the wicked.
9Because you have made my Father your refuge—the Most High your dwelling place, 10no evil will overtake you, no plague will come near your tent. 11For he will command his angels concerning you, to guard you in all your ways. a a v11 When the tempter challenged Jesus in the wilderness, he quoted this very verse — twisting a promise of the Father's protection into a dare. Jesus, the true Son, trusted his Father without testing him. 12They will hold you up with their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. 13You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the young lion and the serpent underfoot.
14"Because he clings to me in love, I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows my name. 15He will call to me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. 16With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation."
