Father's Heart Bible™ key-term glossary — anchored to the historic Russian Scriptures · Script: Cyrillic

For the reviewer

These are the proposed renderings of FHB's key terms. The heart of the review: wherever English says our Father, the rendering must feel like a beloved child addressing their own father — warm, reverent, natural to your language's Bible — and never the distant generic word for "God." Mark anything that reads wrong, stiff, or irreverent. Tip: your browser's translate feature can back-translate this page as a second witness. Approvals or corrections go to Kevin White.

Register

Reverent contemporary Russian Bible register in the wording family of the Синодальный перевод (Synodal Translation, 1876) — the most-trusted and most-loved Russian Bible across Orthodox, Baptist, and Evangelical readers — with lightly modernized orthography and a warm, personal address in the filial passages. Where Synodal wording is archaic (e.g. «Дух Святый»), the config uses the modern nominative form Russian believers now read and pray.

Quotation marks

Primary quotation uses guillemets «…»; nested/inner quotes use low-high German-style „…“. Dialogue in narrative may also use em-dash openers (— …), as in Russian literary prose.

Poetry lines

The Synodal tradition historically set poetry as running prose; contemporary reverent editions (Russian Bible Society) break Psalms, prophets, and canticles into indented poetic lines with a hanging indent marking each parallel colon. FHB follows the indented-parallel-line convention, one line per Hebrew colon.

#English termProposed renderingLiteral back-translationWhy
1 our Heavenly Father наш Небесный Отец Father our Heavenly Anchored to Синодальный (Synodal) (Mt 6:9) — the established rendering this language's church already prays; FHB shifts only the person (our), never the construction. Was: "Отец наш Небесный". Sweep 2026-07-22 (Kevin: mine the existing translations, don't invent)
2 our Father наш Отец Father our Anchored to Синодальный (Synodal) (Mt 6:9 / Rom 1:7) — the established rendering this language's church already prays; FHB shifts only the person (our), never the construction. Was: "Отец наш". Sweep 2026-07-22 (Kevin: mine the existing translations, don't invent)
3 the Father Отец the Father Filial definite name. Russian has no article, so the capitalized bare Отец carries the definiteness; distinguished from generic Бог. Keeps the Отец stem.
4 Heavenly Father Небесный Отец Heavenly Father Filial divine name without the possessive. Word order Небесный Отец reads as a warm title; Отец Небесный is an acceptable liturgical variant. Never Бог.
5 Abba, Father Авва, Отче Abba, Father! (vocative) Aramaic address retained exactly as in Synodal (Mark 14:36; Rom 8:15; Gal 4:6), followed by the Russian vocative Отче as the built-in gloss. The Отч- stem satisfies conformance.
6 God Бог God REVERSION TOKEN — the non-filial contrast word. Traditional Synodal term for God-as-God. Use ONLY where the English keeps 'God' as deity; never as a substitute for Отец наш.
7 the LORD Господь the Lord (covenant name) REVERSION TOKEN — Synodal renders the Tetragrammaton YHWH as Господь. NOTE for reviewer: unlike Telugu (యెహోవా vs ప్రభువు), Russian uses the same word Господь for the covenant LORD and for 'Lord' addressed to Jesus; FHB may distinguish the covenant name with small caps ГОСПОДЬ. Never a substitute for Отец наш.
8 the Holy Spirit Святой Дух Holy Spirit Modernized from archaic Synodal «Дух Святый» to the form contemporary readers use; Дух Святой is an equal-register variant.
9 the Spirit of our Father Дух Отца нашего Spirit of-Father our Relational (of the Father), NOT the by-identity title Святой Дух. Follows Synodal «Дух Отца вашего» (Matt 10:20), shifted to first person. Carries the Отц- stem.
10 the Son of Man Сын Человеческий Son of-Man / Human Son Fixed Synodal Christological title; unchanged.
11 the Son Сын the Son The Son (Jesus). Capitalized bare Сын carries definiteness; correlate of the filial Отец.
12 the Son of God Сын Божий Son of-God Traditional Synodal title; 'God' is retained here as God-as-God (reversion-token logic), so the standard Сын Божий stands. REVIEWER TO CONFIRM whether FHB's filial vision prefers «Сын Отца» (Son of the Father), paralleling Telugu తండ్రి కుమారుడు.
13 one and only Son Единородный Сын Only-begotten Son From Synodal «Сына Своего Единородного» (John 3:16). Единородный is the settled, beloved rendering of monogenēs; modern «единственный Сын» is a plainer alternative if the reviewer wants lower register.
14 the kingdom of our Father Царство Отца нашего Kingdom of-Father our FHB filial rendering of 'kingdom of God': Synodal «Царство Божие» → Царство Отца нашего (John 3:3,5). Keeps the Отц- stem; never Царство Божие here.
15 Jesus Иисус Jesus Standard Synodal spelling.
16 Christ Христос Christ Standard Synodal spelling (John 3:28).
17 Messiah Мессия Messiah As in Synodal John 1:41 «Мессия»; used where the English keeps the transliterated title rather than Христос.
18 covenant завет covenant / testament Standard Russian Bible term (Ветхий/Новый Завет). Distinct from договор (secular contract).
19 steadfast love неизменная любовь unchanging love Renders Hebrew hesed (loyal covenant love). Synodal usually flattens hesed to «милость» (mercy), which loses the love; неизменная любовь restores the warmth and loyalty. REVIEWER TO CONFIRM vs «верная любовь» (faithful love), paralleling Telugu స్థిరమైన ప్రేమ.
20 compassion милосердие mercy / tender-heartedness Renders Hebrew racham (womb-love) / Greek splanchnizomai (gut-level tender mercy). Синодальный often uses the verb «сжалился»; the noun милосердие carries the inward tenderness. Alternative «сострадание» (suffering-with) available if the reviewer wants the visceral splanchnizomai sense foregrounded.
21 righteousness праведность righteousness Standard Synodal term.
22 eternal life жизнь вечная life eternal As in Synodal John 3:16 «жизнь вечную»; вечная жизнь is the equal modern word-order variant.
23 born again рождённый свыше born from above / anew Follows Synodal «родится свыше» (John 3:3,7). Свыше preserves the deliberate John 3 double meaning 'from above / anew'; preferred over the flatter «рождён заново» (born anew only).

Machine conformance stems (every filial rendering must contain one): Отец · Отц · Отч · Отче
