These are the proposed renderings of FHB's key terms. The heart of the review: wherever English says our Father, the rendering must feel like a beloved child addressing their own father — warm, reverent, natural to your language's Bible — and never the distant generic word for "God." Register

Reverent contemporary Hindi in the tradition of the Bible Society of India पवित्र बाइबिल (the beloved Hindi O.V. and its revision), which most Hindi-speaking congregations pray and read from. Vocabulary is the familiar church register — dignified but warm, accessible Devanagari, not high-Sanskritized literary Hindi.

Quotation marks

Modern Hindi print convention: double quotation marks “…” for direct speech, single ‘…’ for a quote inside a quote. Devanagari carries no case, so reverence is marked by word choice and the honorific -जी / हे-vocative, not capitalization.

Poetry lines

Poetry (Psalms, Proverbs, prophetic oracles) is set as line-broken verse with the second line of each parallel couplet indented, matching the stanza layout of the Hindi Bible; prose paragraphs run full-measure.

Terms we deliberately avoid

These common words carry another religion's meaning, so Scripture in Hindi has always chosen different vocabulary — and so do we. Please don't recommend them; the established Bible alternative is listed beside each.

  • पुनर्जन्म (reincarnation (samsara)) → नया जन्म (Jn 3:3 established)
  • अवतार (Hindu avatar/descent of a deity) → देहधारण (incarnation)
  • मोक्ष (Hindu liberation from rebirth) → उद्धार (salvation)
  • कर्म-फल (karmic fruit/fate) → plain कर्म only for "deeds", never fate-theology
  • निर्वाण (Buddhist nirvana) → अनन्त जीवन (eternal life)
