Why Did You Wake Up This Morning? Loved by the Father

Why did you wake up this morning? Here is the plain answer: your Heavenly Father woke you so he could love on you. Not so you could perform for him. Not so you could prove anything. You opened your eyes today because a perfect and loving Father wanted another day to pour his heart into yours. Most of us were trained to begin the morning by giving God something — praise, effort, devotion. But you were created first to receive. You are his beloved son or daughter, and the day starts with his love coming toward you, not with yours climbing up to him.

Who Woke You Up This Morning?

The first question matters more than it sounds. Who woke you up this morning? Scripture opens with the answer. Genesis 1:1 in the Father's Heart Bible™ reads, "In the beginning, our Heavenly Father created the heavens and the earth." The One who spoke light into the dark is not a distant deity — he is your Father. And if God is your Father, then you are not a project, a servant, or a statistic. You are a beloved son or daughter. So why did he stir you awake? 1 John 4:19 says, "We love because he first loved us." His love comes first. It always has. You did not earn this morning, and you cannot fall behind on it. Before you formed a single thought, your Father was already loving you into the day.

This is your right as his creation — not a reward for good behavior. The sun rose on your room whether you deserved it or not, and so did his affection. Begin here every day.

You Were Created to Receive, Not to Perform

Imagine an earthly parent waking a child and demanding the child first recite how much they love them before breakfast. That is backwards, and we feel it instantly. Matthew 7:11 in the FHB puts it plainly: "If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him!" Good fathers give. Children receive. You were created to be a receiver — a sponge made to soak up your Father's love. Sponges soak up. Sponges leak. Sponges soak up again. That is the rhythm of a son or daughter: not striving, but absorbing. Tomorrow the world will wring you dry, and you will come back to be filled again.

There is no shame in needing more. Being thirsty is not failure; it is design.

Father's Love Never Runs Out

Here is the fear underneath so much striving: that one day the love will run dry. It will not. Malachi 3:6 records the Father's own words: "For I, your Father, do not change; therefore you, children of Jacob, have not been destroyed." Perfect love that never runs out. Abundant love that never decreases. Every morning he has more to give — more intimacy, more identity, more inheritance. Everything we chase in a bank account is already true of our Father, and he is after something worth far more than money. Mark 8:36 asks, "What good does it do a person to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?" Your Father values your soul, your heart, your name. More love. Then more love. Then more love.

So stop rationing what he gives without limit. The bank of heaven never posts an overdraft against a son or daughter who simply comes asking for more.

Head Knowledge Is Not the Same as Seeing His Face

Most believers carry head knowledge of salvation and the cross yet have never met the Father's heart for them personally. They know the doctrine and have never seen his eyes of delight, felt his strong arms of protection and provision, or heard his heartbeat over them. Job 42:5 captures the difference: "My ears had heard of you, but now my eyes have seen you." Hearing about a Father and being held by one are not the same thing. This is the center of the whole Father's heart message — and you can go further in What Is the Father's Heart of God?. There is only one relationship that carries this kind of love. Not a pilgrim to a distant deity. Not a servant to a master. Not a sheep to a shepherd. Not a disciple to a Savior. Only a beloved son or daughter to a perfect and loving Heavenly Father.

This is the difference between knowing about your Father and being held by him. Many believers live forgiven yet insecure — bullied by the enemy, hearing the father of lies louder than the Father who is always near to protect and provide. We were never meant to settle there. Sit still long enough to hear his heartbeat over you, to feel his strong arms around you, to catch his whisper that you are his and he is well pleased. That is not advanced Christianity. It is simply coming close enough to stop hearing about him and start seeing his face.

A Son or Daughter Happens in the Heart

Being a son or daughter does not happen by repentance, tithing, service, or performance. It happens in the heart. When a baby is conceived, the first thing every parent strains to hear is a heartbeat — and when it comes, we weep. That's my child. Alive. It is always about the heart. Romans 8:15 describes what God longs to awaken in you: "For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship, by whom we cry, 'Abba! Father!'" Abba is the intimate word a small child uses for their own father, closer to "Daddy" than to any formal title, as the Greek of the New Testament preserves it. Most Christians have repented, received Jesus, read Scripture, and served for years without once letting the Spirit cry Abba inside them.

Open Your Heart and Come Home

We receive the Son and the Spirit yet often live without a Father — though both the Son and the Spirit exist to reveal him. 1 John 4:4 promises, "You are from our Father, little children, and you have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world." Greater is the One in you. Yet many of us hear the father of lies louder than we hear our Father who is always near to protect and provide. So come home. Open your heart and pray it: "Father, I open my heart to you as your beloved son or daughter." Then stop and receive. He will pour. Soak it up. Taste and see that the Father is good. When you have been loved like that, loving him back stops being a duty and becomes the most natural thing in the world.

Long before you opened your eyes this morning, the Father was already there. David woke to that very truth and could only pray it back to him:

You will wake again tomorrow. When you do, let the first question settle the whole day: who woke you, and why? A Father did — and he is not finished loving you. There is more love waiting at dawn than you spent today, and more again the morning after that. Open your heart, and let him fill it with his heart for you.
