Numbers 36

36 ¹ The heads of the ancestral clans of the Gileadite families—descendants of Machir son of Manasseh, from the clans of Joseph—came and spoke before Moses and the leaders, the heads of the ancestral clans of Israel.

Our Father's Answer

² They said, "Our Father commanded my lord to give the land for an inheritance by lot to the people of Israel, and my lord was commanded by our Father to give the inheritance of Zelophehad our brother to his daughters." ³ "But if they become wives of any of the sons of the other tribes of the people of Israel, then their inheritance will be taken from the inheritance of our fathers and added to the inheritance of the tribe into which they marry. So it will be taken from the share of our inheritance." ⁴ "And when the jubilee of the people of Israel comes, then their inheritance will be added to the inheritance of the tribe into which they marry, and their inheritance will be taken from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers."

⁵ So Moses commanded the people of Israel according to the word of our Father, saying, "The tribe of Joseph is right." ⁶ "This is what our Father has commanded concerning the daughters of Zelophehad: They may marry whomever they think best, only they must marry within the clan of their father's tribe." ⁷ "So no inheritance of the people of Israel shall pass from one tribe to another, for each Israelite shall hold on to their ancestral inheritance." ⁸ "And every daughter who has an inheritance in any tribe of Israel must marry within the clan of her father's tribe, so that every Israelite may hold on to their ancestral inheritance." ⁹ "So no inheritance shall pass from one tribe to another, for each tribe of Israel shall hold on to its own inheritance."

¹⁰ Just as our Father commanded Moses, so the daughters of Zelophehad did. ¹¹ Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Noah, the daughters of Zelophehad, married their cousins on their father's side. ¹² They married into the clans of the descendants of Manasseh son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained in the tribe of their father's clan.

¹³ These are the commandments and the judgments that our Father commanded through Moses to the people of Israel in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho.
