The Father Judges Tyre

Chapter 26.

In the eleventh year, on the first day of the month, the word of our Father came to me:

"Son of man, because Tyre has said concerning Jerusalem, 'Aha! The gate of the peoples is broken; it has swung open to me. Now that she lies in ruins, I will grow rich'— therefore this is what the Sovereign Father says: Look, I am against you, Tyre, and I will bring up many nations against you, as the sea brings up its waves. They will destroy the walls of Tyre and tear down her towers, and I will scrape her soil from her and leave her a bare rock. She will become a place to spread nets in the midst of the sea, for I have spoken, declares the Sovereign Father. She will become plunder for the nations, and her surrounding villages on the mainland will be killed by the sword. Then they will know that I am the Father.

For this is what the Sovereign Father says: Look, I am bringing Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, king of kings, against Tyre from the north, with horses and chariots, with horsemen and a great army of many troops. Your surrounding villages on the mainland he will kill with the sword. He will set up siege works against you, build a ramp against you, and raise a shield-wall against you. He will pound your walls with his battering rams and tear down your towers with his axes. His horses will be so many that their dust will cover you. Your walls will shake at the noise of horsemen and wagons and chariots when he enters your gates as men enter a city whose walls are breached. His horses' hooves will trample all your streets. He will kill your people with the sword, and your mighty pillars will fall to the ground. They will plunder your wealth and loot your merchandise. They will break down your walls and demolish your fine houses, and they will throw your stones and timber and rubble into the sea. I will silence the noise of your songs, and the sound of your lyres will be heard no more. I will make you a bare rock; you will become a place to spread nets. You will never be rebuilt, for I, the Father, have spoken, declares the Sovereign Father.

This is what the Sovereign Father says to Tyre: Will not the coastlands tremble at the sound of your fall, when the wounded groan, when slaughter takes place within you? Then all the rulers of the sea will step down from their thrones. They will lay aside their robes and strip off their embroidered garments. Overcome with trembling, they will sit on the ground, shuddering every moment, appalled at you. They will raise a lament over you and say to you: 'How you have perished, you who were peopled from the seas, renowned city—you who were mighty on the sea, you and your inhabitants, who spread your terror over all who lived there!' 1 1 v17 Tyre was a wealthy island city-state whose power and population were built on sea trade. Now the coastlands tremble on the day of your fall the islands in the sea are dismayed at your passing.

For this is what the Sovereign Father says: When I make you a desolate city, like long-abandoned cities, when I bring up the deep over you and the great waters cover you, then I will bring you down with those who go down to the pit, to the people of long ago. I will make you dwell in the earth below, among ancient ruins, with those who go down to the pit, so that you will not return or take your place in the land of the living. I will bring you to a horrible end, and you will be no more. You will be sought, but never again will you be found, declares the Sovereign Father.
