The Glory of Our Father Departs the Temple

Chapter 10.

Then I looked, and above the expanse over the heads of the cherubim there appeared something like a sapphire stone, shaped like a throne.

And our Father said to the man clothed in linen, "Go in among the whirling wheels underneath the cherubim. Fill your hands with burning coals from among the cherubim and scatter them over the city." And he went in before my eyes.

Now the cherubim were standing on the south side of the house when the man went in, and the cloud filled the inner court. Then the glory of our Father rose up from the cherub to the threshold of the house, and the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was filled with the brightness of our Father's glory. And the sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard as far as the outer court, like the voice of the Almighty when he speaks.

When he commanded the man clothed in linen, "Take fire from among the whirling wheels, from among the cherubim," the man went in and stood beside a wheel. Then the cherub reached out his hand to the fire among the cherubim, took some of it, and put it into the hands of the man clothed in linen, who took it and went out. The cherubim appeared to have human hands under their wings.

I looked, and there were four wheels beside the cherubim, one beside each cherub, and the wheels gleamed like beryl. All four wheels looked the same, as though a wheel were within a wheel. When they moved, they could go in any of their four directions without turning as they went; wherever the front wheel faced, the others followed without turning as they went. And their whole body—their backs, their hands, their wings, and the wheels—were full of eyes all around, the wheels of all four of them. As for the wheels, they were called in my hearing "the whirling ones." And each one had four faces: the first was the face of a cherub, the second the face of a man, the third the face of a lion, and the fourth the face of an eagle.

And the cherubim rose up. These were the living creatures that I had seen by the Chebar canal. When the cherubim moved, the wheels moved beside them; and when the cherubim lifted their wings to rise up from the earth, the wheels did not leave their side. When they stood still, the wheels stood still; and when they rose up, the wheels rose with them, for the spirit of the living creatures was in them.

Then the glory of our Father moved out from above the threshold of the house and stood over the cherubim. Before my eyes, the cherubim lifted their wings and rose up from the earth as they went out, with the wheels beside them. They stood at the entrance of the east gate of the house of our Father, and the glory of the Father of Israel was high above them.

These were the living creatures that I had seen underneath the Father of Israel by the Chebar canal, and I knew that they were cherubim. Each one had four faces, each had four wings, and underneath their wings what looked like human hands. Their faces looked just the same as those I had seen by the Chebar canal. Each one went straight forward.
