Garments for the Holy Place

Chapter 39.

From the blue, purple, and scarlet yarn they made finely woven garments for ministering in the holy place, and they made the holy garments for Aaron, as our Father had commanded Moses.

Crafting the Ephod

He made the ephod of gold, of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and of finely woven linen.

Gold Woven In

They hammered out thin sheets of gold and cut them into threads to work into the blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and the fine linen — the work of a skilled craftsman. They made shoulder pieces for it, joined together at its two edges. The skillfully woven band on the ephod was of one piece with it and made like it — of gold, of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and of finely woven linen, as our Father had commanded Moses.

They prepared the onyx stones, set in gold filigree settings and engraved like a seal with the names of the sons of Israel. He set them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as stones of remembrance for the sons of Israel, as our Father had commanded Moses.

The Breastpiece

He made the breastpiece, the work of a skilled craftsman, like the workmanship of the ephod — of gold, of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and of finely woven linen.

Twelve Stones, Twelve Tribes

It was square; they made the breastpiece doubled — about nine inches long and nine inches wide when doubled. They set in it four rows of stones. The first row was carnelian, topaz, and emerald; the second row, turquoise, sapphire, and emerald; the third row, jacinth, agate, and amethyst; the fourth row, beryl, onyx, and jasper. They were enclosed in gold filigree settings. There were twelve stones, one for each of the names of the sons of Israel; each was engraved like a seal with the name of one of the twelve tribes. For the breastpiece they made braided chains of pure gold, like cords. They made two gold filigree settings and two gold rings, and fastened the two rings to the two ends of the breastpiece. They fastened the two gold cords to the two rings at the ends of the breastpiece, and they attached the other ends of the two cords to the two filigree settings, joining them to the shoulder pieces of the ephod at the front. Then they made two gold rings and put them on the two ends of the breastpiece, on the inside edge next to the ephod. They made two more gold rings and attached them to the front of the lower part of the two shoulder pieces of the ephod, close to the seam just above the woven band of the ephod. They tied the rings of the breastpiece to the rings of the ephod with a cord of blue, so that it would rest on the woven band and not come loose from the ephod, as our Father had commanded Moses.

The Robe and Its Hem

He made the robe of the ephod entirely of blue, the work of a weaver,

with an opening in the center like the opening of a collar, with a woven binding around the opening so that it would not tear. On the hem of the robe they made pomegranates of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn and finely woven linen. They made bells of pure gold and attached them between the pomegranates all around the hem of the robe, between the pomegranates — a bell and a pomegranate, a bell and a pomegranate, all around the hem of the robe for ministering, as our Father had commanded Moses.

For Aaron and his sons they made the tunics of fine linen, the work of a weaver, and the turban of fine linen, the ornate caps of fine linen, the linen undergarments of finely woven linen, and the sash of finely woven linen and of blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, the work of an embroiderer, as our Father had commanded Moses.

They made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold and engraved on it like a seal: "Holy to our Father." They tied a blue cord to it to fasten it on the turban above, as our Father had commanded Moses.

Everything Finished, Everything Right

So all the work of the tabernacle, the tent of meeting, was finished. The people of Israel did everything just as our Father had commanded Moses; so they did.

Moses Inspects the Work

Then they brought the tabernacle to Moses: the tent and all its furnishings, its clasps, frames, crossbars, posts, and bases; the covering of ram skins dyed red, the covering of fine leather, and the shielding curtain; the ark of the testimony with its poles and the mercy seat; the table with all its utensils and the bread of the Presence; the lampstand of pure gold with its row of lamps set in place and all its utensils, and the oil for the light; the gold altar, the anointing oil, the fragrant incense, and the screen for the entrance to the tent; the bronze altar with its bronze grating, its poles and all its utensils, the basin with its stand; the curtains of the courtyard with its posts and bases, the screen for the entrance to the courtyard, its ropes and tent pegs, and all the equipment for the service of the tabernacle, the tent of meeting; and the finely woven garments for ministering in the holy place — the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments for his sons to serve as priests. The people of Israel had done all the work just as our Father had commanded Moses. Moses inspected all the work, and saw that they had done it just as our Father had commanded; so they had done. And Moses blessed them.
