The Father's Promise to His Own
12 1 At that time Michael, the great prince who stands guard over the children of your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has never been since the beginning of nations until that time. But at that time your people will be delivered, everyone whose name is found written in the book.
2 Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. 3 Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who turn many to righteousness will shine like the stars forever and ever.
4 But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book until the time of the end. Many will run here and there, and knowledge will increase.
5 Then I, Daniel, looked and saw two others standing, one on this bank of the river and one on the other bank. 6 And one said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, "How long until the end of these wonders?"
7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, raise his right hand and his left hand toward heaven and swear by him who lives forever that it would be for a time, times, and half a time; and that when the power of the holy people had been completely shattered, all these things would be finished. 1 1 v7 The everlasting One by whom the oath is sworn — the One who lives forever — is our Father, the source and end of all the ages.
8 I heard, but I did not understand. So I said, "My lord, what will be the outcome of these things?"
9 He said, "Go your way, Daniel, for the words are shut up and sealed until the time of the end." 10 Many will be purified, cleansed, and refined, but the wicked will act wickedly. None of the wicked will understand, but those who are wise will understand.
11 From the time the daily sacrifice is taken away and the abomination that causes desolation is set up, there will be 1,290 days. 12 Blessed is the one who waits and reaches the end of the 1,335 days.
13 But you, go your way till the end. You will rest, and will arise to your inheritance at the end of the days. 2 2 v13 "You will rest" refers to Daniel's death, and "arise to your inheritance" points to his future resurrection and reward.
