Woe to the Comfortable and Complacent

Chapter 6.

Woe to those who are at ease in Zion and to those who feel secure on the mountain of Samaria the notable men of the foremost nation, to whom the house of Israel comes! Cross over to Calneh and look from there go on to Hamath the great then go down to Gath of the Philistines. Are you better than these kingdoms? Or is their territory greater than yours? You push away the day of disaster yet you bring near a reign of violence. They lie on beds of ivory and sprawl on their couches, eating lambs from the flock and calves from the fattening pen. They strum away on the harp and, like David, invent musical instruments for themselves. They drink wine by the bowlful and anoint themselves with the finest oils but they are not grieved over the ruin of Joseph. Therefore they will now go into exile at the head of the exiles and the revelry of those who sprawl at ease will pass away.

The Father Despises the Pride of Israel

The Sovereign Father has sworn by himself — this is the declaration of the Father of heaven's armies: I despise the pride of Jacob and hate his strongholds, and I will hand over the city and everything in it.

And if ten men are left in one house, they too will die.

And when a man's relative, the one who burns the bodies, lifts him to carry the bones out of the house, and calls to whoever is in the innermost room, "Is anyone still with you?" and he answers, "No one," then he will say, "Hush! We must not invoke the name of our Father."

For look, our Father gives the command and the great house will be smashed to fragments and the little house to bits. Do horses gallop on a cliff? Does one plow the sea with oxen? Yet you have turned justice into poison and the fruit of righteousness into bitter wormwood. you who rejoice over Lo-debar and say, "Have we not by our own strength taken Karnaim for ourselves?" But look I am raising up against you a nation, house of Israel, declares the Father, the Father of heaven's armies and they will oppress you from Lebo-hamath all the way to the Brook of the Arabah.
