The Father's Discipline Goes Unheeded

Chapter 4.

Hear this word, you cows of Bashan who are on the mountain of Samaria, you who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who say to your masters, "Bring us something to drink!"

The Sovereign Father has sworn by his holiness: "The days are coming upon you when they will drag you away with hooks and the last of you with fishhooks. You will go out through the breaches in the wall, each one straight ahead and you will be flung out toward Harmon," declares our Father.

"Come to Bethel and rebel to Gilgal and rebel all the more! Bring your sacrifices every morning, your tithes every three days. Burn leavened bread as a thank offering, announce your freewill offerings, proclaim them aloud for this is what you love to do, people of Israel!" declares the Sovereign Father.

"I gave you empty stomachs in every city and a lack of bread in every place yet you did not return to me," declares our Father.

"I also withheld the rain from you while there were still three months to the harvest. I would send rain on one city and withhold it from another one field would be rained on and the field with no rain would dry up. So two or three cities would stagger to another city for water but not have enough to drink yet you did not return to me," declares our Father.

"I struck you with blight and mildew the locust devoured your many gardens and vineyards, your fig trees and your olive trees yet you did not return to me," declares our Father.

"I sent a plague against you like the one in Egypt I killed your young men with the sword and carried off your horses. I made the stench of your camp rise into your nostrils yet you did not return to me," declares our Father.

"I overthrew some of you as I overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and you were like a stick snatched from the fire yet you did not return to me," declares our Father.

"Therefore this is what I will do to you, Israel and because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your Father, O Israel!"

For it is he who forms the mountains and creates the wind, who reveals his thoughts to mankind, who turns the dawn to darkness and treads on the heights of the earth our Father, the Father of heaven's armies, is his name.
