Israel Resolves to Seek Our Father
13 1 David consulted with the commanders of thousands and of hundreds, with every leader. 2 And David said to the whole assembly of Israel, "If it seems good to you, and if this is from our Father, let us send word far and wide to the rest of our brothers in all the lands of Israel, and with them the priests and Levites in their cities and pasturelands, so they can gather to us." 3 Then let us bring back the ark of our Father to us, for we did not seek it in the days of Saul."
4 And the whole assembly agreed to do so, for it seemed right to all the people.
Our Father's Holiness Halts the Procession
5 So David assembled all Israel, from the Shihor of Egypt to Lebo-hamath, to bring the ark of our Father from Kiriath-jearim.
6 And David and all Israel went up to Baalah, to Kiriath-jearim that belongs to Judah, to bring up from there the ark of our Father, who is enthroned above the cherubim, where his Name is proclaimed. 7 They carried the ark of our Father on a new cart from the house of Abinadab, and Uzza and Ahio were guiding the cart. 8 And David and all Israel were celebrating before our Father with all their might, with songs and lyres and harps and tambourines and cymbals and trumpets.
9 When they came to the threshing floor of Kidon, Uzza reached out his hand to take hold of the ark, because the oxen stumbled. 10 Then the anger of our Father burned against Uzza, and he struck him down because he had reached out his hand to the ark; and he died there before our Father.
11 And David was angry because our Father had broken out against Uzza; so that place is called Perez-uzza to this day. 1 1 v11 Perez-uzza means "to burst out against Uzza" — the name marks what happened there.
12 And David was afraid of our Father that day, and he said, "How can I bring the ark of our Father to me?" 13 So David did not move the ark to the city of David, but he took it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite. 14 And the ark of our Father remained with the household of Obed-edom in his house for three months, and our Father blessed the household of Obed-edom and everything he owned.
